I Picked Up a Hitchhiker

What I Picked Up a Hitchhiker is about

On a deserted desert highway, a stunning hitchhiker is stuck waiting for a ride. The driver who stops is, by his own account, the most ordinary guy around, in a rattling old pickup. A long drive, a lot of sand and an unplanned detour follow. Both are fictional adults. A flat tire, a shared bottle of water and a long evening on the shoulder make the rest.

Episode 1 recap

A man in a rattling old pickup spots a hitchhiker standing alone on a desert highway. He cannot believe his luck when she accepts a ride. She jokes about whether he is a serial killer, he says no, and that is good enough for her.

She explains she left her boyfriend, or rather her ex, at a gas station fifty miles back. The heat gets to her, she needs a shower, and he mentions a motel forty miles ahead. She likes the plan.

At the front desk there is just one room left. He starts to say they can figure something out, but she is fine with it. She tells him not to worry, she does not bite, and asks if he is coming. Both are adults.

What to expect

The setup is simple and cinematic: heat shimmer, open road and two strangers sharing a cab. I Picked Up a Hitchhiker is about the odds of an average man getting lucky on an empty stretch of nowhere.
