What My Mother-in-Law Wants to Be My Hall Pass is about

At a family dinner, Kate says she trusts her husband so completely that she would hand him a hall pass, since he would never use it. Everyone laughs except her mother, Margot. Ten minutes later she corners Dan in the kitchen, an adult woman with a proposal of her own. What began as a laugh at the table is now a private question for Dan.

Episode 1 recap

At a family dinner, Kate says she would happily give her husband Dan a hall pass because he would never use it. Her mother Margot, an adult woman, is the only one who does not laugh.

She finds Dan in the kitchen and asks whether he would use it. He says no, quickly, and she tells him nobody has ever answered that fast. Kate calls in from the next room asking for coffee, and Dan stays put with his mother-in-law, who notes that his heart is racing.

Dan insists he is not a saint, just married. Margot says her book club meets tomorrow evening and the house will be empty, then dares him to say no again. Coffee, she says, can wait.

Our take

Worth it if you like a will-he-or-won't-he setup in which the pressure comes from a family dinner and a wife one room away. It suits you if you prefer the man to resist for a while.

Comparable to My Fiancée’s Best Friend in its test of loyalty before a commitment, though here the temptation is his mother-in-law in the same house.

What to expect

The setup is one sentence at a table, and the series grows out of how seriously someone took it. Margot treats a joke as a challenge, and Dan has a few minutes in a kitchen to decide what to say.

It is filed under MILF and plays on the hall-pass idea with a mother-in-law twist. Episodes last about a minute and mostly play on near-whispers, family noise from the next room and sharp looks. The mood is cheeky and suggestive, with nothing graphic.
