Under the Chief

What Under the Chief is about

Harriet is an adult trainee doctor, awkward and eager to prove herself. On a quiet night the chief of surgery locks the on-call room and offers some very personal coaching. Outside the door, the head nurse, who would love to see Harriet dismissed, is close enough to hear everything. Ambition, attraction and a ticking risk of being caught.

Episode 1 recap

Harriet, an adult trainee doctor, is on the last night of her probation. The head nurse wants her gone, and the chief of surgery keeps looking at her. He tells her the floor will be quiet tonight once surgery wraps up.

He leads her to the on-call room, the only quiet one on the floor, and she apologizes that her scrubs are a size too small. He says they look perfect on her. The head nurse, Vanessa, reminds him through the door that the board wants his note by seven, and he tells her to cancel it and let no one disturb them.

Harriet sees the door close behind them, and the episode ends there, with the head nurse close enough to listen.

Hospital, after hours

Most of the drama is built from one small space: a narrow on-call room, a lock turning, and a hallway where someone is waiting. The jealous head nurse gives the story its pressure, because one wrong sound could end Harriet's career.

Expect workplace power games rather than medical realism. The episodes are vertical, about a minute each, and cut quickly between the room and the corridor.
