What Y.U.N.A is about

Yuna, a robotic maid, arrives at a couple's home with a simple job: make life easier. Her polite routines and perfect obedience soon do the opposite. As she gets closer to the household's secrets, a marriage that had grown quiet is set ablaze, in the best possible way. A playful sci-fi domestic story with an adult cast.

Episode 1 recap

A robotic maid arrives at a couple's home, ready to work. The husband tells her to try not to burn the house down, and she replies in a flat, cheerful voice that she is here to help, with cleaning required.

Her programming is not quite right. When she addresses his wife, she says she is sorry and is still calibrating, and one of her routines is simply the word disinfect.

Later the husband returns for a forgotten laptop charger and finds the room unusually dark. The episode closes on a puzzled question about who or what Yuna is, with the household's quiet about to change. The cast is adult. It is a short, odd and funny first look at a robot who may not follow the manual.

Our take

Worth it if you like a playful sci-fi domestic comedy with a robot lead and a marriage that needs shaking up. It is lighter and odder than most of the catalog.

Not Under My Roof also begins with a couple's household disrupted by one confident newcomer, but Y.U.N.A. replaces the mother-in-law with a malfunctioning robot.

A maid with a different kind of programming

Y.U.N.A belongs to the Maid category and adds a sci-fi twist. Yuna is a robot, which means she follows instructions to the letter, and the couple she serves keep discovering how many ways an instruction can be read. Expect crisp uniforms, deadpan lines and a lot of domestic scenes with an extra charge.

It is five episodes, each around a minute long, made for vertical viewing. All characters are AI-generated adults.

The tone is light and a bit cheeky. It is more wink than melodrama.

Because Yuna is a machine, the humor comes from literal readings of ordinary requests, and the couple's reactions drive the story forward.
